Here are some of the rocks we found while we were in NC on vacation this summer.  The first is a picture of my mom’s staurolite (aka fairy crosses).  The next two pictures are of some pretty jasper that is my mom’s.  I’ll have to take a picture of my fairy crosses to put on here.

This Walgreens Diaper deal saved me TONS of money!

If you figure what I actually paid vs. what I normally pay -

96 packages of Diapers

Paid 144.00- 4.50 for each transaction (including tax)

Normally (for brand name same size) – 720$!!!  And that is if they’re on sale (7.50 each) NOT including tax!!!

I bought diapers for my nephew, my son and daughter, and for my future nephew or neice!  I’ll probably end up keeping about 70 packs for us.  Now I have to figure out what all I want to buy with my OODLES of Register Rewards!!!

My Project

My daughter has a foam chair  that she sits in ALL the time.  The cover of it was ripping at the seams and stained pretty badly, so I decided to recover it.  I used some fabric that I got at an estate sale for .25, some waterproof lap pads/changing pads, and a table cloth that Will bought to make a curtain (he bought 2 and we ended up only needing one) – so I spent nothing (since last year when we bought the fabrics) on this project!

I couldn’t do this again the same way in 100 years – but this is kind of how I went about it -

First I measured all dimensions of the chair.  I drew diagrams and labeled them with the measurements.  Then I drew out how I was going to cut the fabric and figured out measurements for the pieces.  I cut the seat (flowered) in one piece and then cut the lap pad to fit (with 1/2 in of fabric on each side – to sew to the brown).  I sewed the lap pad in then started with the foot rest panels.  I worked my way around the chair and with a LOT of referring back to the chair and remeasuring etc, this is what happened!

To hold the cover on, I measured an extra 6 inches on the bottom then folded over about 3 inches and made a hem about 1 1/2 in from the edge.  Then I folded the hem right on the seam and made another hem about 1/4 in from the inside edge.  I threaded elastic thru the hem and tied it together with a few knots then sewed the hem closed and, Voila!  I couldn’t believe there were no major mishaps!  My daughter LOVES it – she said it was pretty!  I still have to finish the cushion, but I don’t know when that’ll be because I have to get out and buy a zipper first.

I went back to Walgreens this morning – both easy saver coupons scanned without problem today – and got 24 more packs of diapers, that’s 8 transactions.  Today it was a little different with tax, it came out to 4.50 after the coupons then after I paid I got my 5$ Register Rewards.  Last night the manager keyed it in for .99 so I only had to pay tax on that – not the 17.97.  Still, a phenomenal deal!!!

I have a pretty good stockpile going now – something new to me.  I’ll have to organize and take a picture to show off all my good deals!!!

I went to Walgreen’s tonight at midnight to try for the best diaper deal ever!  Look at everything I got for less than $15!!!

9 packages of diapers!

Coloring book, Welch’s Drinks (same deal as the diapers – July and Aug ES), some plastic cups for my daughter, elastic for the new cover for my daughter’s chair, Goo Gone for getting the labels off the bottles I reuse for crafts, and some candy!  Hooray for an awesome deal!

I bought 3 packs of diapers for 5.99/each

Used the July Easy Saver Coupon ($5/2 – but it scans 2.50 off each package)

Used the Aug Easy Saver Coupon (Same as July)

And kept my register rewards for the extra stuff at the end.

17.97 – 7.50 – 7.50 = 2.97 (which I paid) THEN – my 5$ Register Reward printed off!

I did this 3 times (For 15$ in RR) then scanned the other stuff and paid with my register rewards!  After everything I spent less than 15$ INCLUDING tax!

I HAVE TO ADD —

The Aug Easy Saver did not scan – the manager had to key in the discount – but the RR printed without problem!  Thanks Mr Pederson!  I’ll be calling to give you a good review!

Think Twice

Think twice before throwing anything away.  First think if you could possibly use it in any way for something else.  I save a lot of stuff for crafts.  (baby bottle rings (the part that holds the nipple-will become christmas ornament this year), laundry det. scoops, milk jugs, pieces of broken toys, etc.)  Then look to see if you can recycle it!  Most stuff is labeled or marked with the recycle symbol.  I starting doing this and realized that I throw out a LOT of stuff that I could be recycling…  Old wipes containers, fast food containers, bottles from the bathroom, old sippy cups/bottles, empty tubes of medicine (diaper rash cream), and on and on.  We normally recycle, but we were just oblivious to all the other stuff we were throwing away!  It’s amazing how much less trash you could have!  I’m thinking about starting a compost pile, tho I don’t know where I’d put it, because a lot of the stuff in our trash now is old food/scraps.

Since my daughter loves to paint we made personalized Thank You cards for her grandparents this year.  I cut a few sheets of construction paper in half and let her paint one or both sides of them.  While she was painting I was taking pictures.  I printed out a picture of her painting the Thank You Card and taped it to the inside of the card then wrote the thank you note.  Under the picture I wrote the date and Me – painting this card!  Then I wrote her name and let her write (draw) underneath.  On one of them I also put a picture of her with the gift.  They turned out really cute!

So I went to Walgreen’s and this is a great time to buy diapers!  I wanted to try the diapers to see how we liked them and so far so good.  They seem very comparable to the Luv’s and the Pampers BabyDry.  I do prefer the Cruisers, especially if they have diaper rash, they just seem to keep them cleaner.  So far the kids haven’t had any reaction to them, and the tabs hold really well.  There is a little less elasticity in the legs, but my son had a nice blow out wearing them and he didn’t leak at the legs or blow out the back…so I’m thinking we’re going to be stocking up on these!

When you go to Walgreen’s get the July ES and this weeks weekly ad, then go get 3 packages of the advertised diapers (in the weekly ad).  When you check out show the July ES which has a coupon for 5$/2 – I’ve been told this takes 2.50 off each package, then the cash register will print out a Register Reward for 5$ which is good toward your next purchase.   So you got 3 packages of diapers for 5.99 each. 18$ – JulyES 7.50 = 10.50.   The register should print out a register reward (like a coupon for your next purchase) for 5$.  Now you give them 3 more packs and they scan the July ES and you pay with your 5$ RR from the previous transaction.  18$ – (JulyES) 7.50 – (RR) 5$ = 5.50.   SO, you pay 15.50 for 6 packages of diapers!  2.58 each.  Pretty Good!  I also heard that the August and July Easy Savers will be overlapping so you should be able to get them for free later this week!  Hopefully that will work out for me!  I got the crayola markers and the g2 pens that will be free with the mail in rebate.  I looked for the chair that will be free with MIR, but I couldn’t find it.  I got my daughter 2 of the workbooks (SchoolZone – Buy 1 Get 1).  I’m also going to watch for the Bic Razors and the windex, scrubbing bubbles, shout etc to overlap with the AugES Booklet.  I bought some of the 7th Generation cleaners for 1.24 each.  I like this stuff because I don’t worry about fumes with the kids.  Anyway, it’ll be an exciting week…

Popsicle Stick Photo Frame

You Need:

11 popsicle or tongue depressor sticks

glue

paint brush

felt shapes

a picture

Glue two sticks on each side, horizonals then verticals.  Break a stick in half to glue at the bottom so the picture doesn’t fall out.

Let dry a few minutes.  Put about 1/4 in. of glue in a small bowl, I used an old mini playdoh container.  Give your child the brush and let them paint glue onto the frame and then apply felt shapes.  For Shapes – I bought 20 (~4$) 8×10 sheets of different color felt and cut off 1 8×2in strip of felt in each color. Then I cut the strips into squares, triangles, circles, ovals, moons. etc. of different sizes.  I put them in a ziploc bag and I keep it in a rubbermaid container with all the craft stuff.  The shapes have lasted thru about 4 crafts and are only 1/2 gone.

My daughter surprised me with this, she’s not quite two yet, but she was able to do it almost completely by herself, after I showed her one time.  She did this frame completely on her own with a little coaxing to fill in all the empty places.

Cut construction paper or cardboard (I used a cereal box) and glue to the back of the frame.  Make sure to get a good seal on the edges that will hold the picture in place.  I took pictures of my daughter making this and I am going to put one of those in the frame.  I’m also going to superglue some magnets on the back so it can go on the refrigerator.  We may give this one to my mom…she’s coming to visit in a few weeks!

Display your child’s artwork where they can see it…on the refrigerator (at their eye level), on the dishwasher, or washer and dryer.  They get really excited to see something they made and they develop an appreciation for the crafts.  Since I started doing it my daughter is much more focused when we are making stuff.  She stops to admire her work quite a bit and then she’ll turn to me and say Mommy, my picture!  It’s adorable!
